University of Maine: ASCC GEM Addition- Conceptual Study

Completed in 2021, the 90,000 SF addition to the Advanced Structures & Composites Center (ASCC) is an interdisciplinary center for research, education, and economic development encompassing material sciences, advanced manufacturing, and engineering of composites and structures.

Simons Architects and Thornton Tomasetti have worked with the ASCC to developĀ a conceptual design study for a 90,000 SF cross laminated timber (CLT) addition to the existing ASCC that would provide the ASCC with needed additional space for its research programs and demonstrate the benefits of mass timber buildings. Consideration of sustainable and biophilic design principles informed the character and identity of this unique facility.
