Bridgton Public Library – In Process

Simons Architects began working with the Bridgton Library in early 2023. We surveyed the existing library spaces and met with the building committee, library staff, and long-time users to determine the functionality of the current building and how it could be expanded and improved for staff and patrons. The issues and needs were documented in a concept planning report with a preliminary program and conceptual building design. A new addition was planned to help library staff work more efficiently, minimize safety and security concerns, and provide appropriate spaces for all members of the wider Bridgton community for years to come.

What came from the report was a design of a 4,000 square foot single story addition off the rear of the historic building, providing accessible access at grade, an elevator, and a new space for a children’s library, community room, restrooms, and an entrance hall. Spaces in the existing building are reconfigured to provide quiet rooms and a reconfigured stack area. The library is in its fundraising period currently, and we look forward to continuing work on the expansion of this vital community resource.
