Lincoln Academy: Campus Plan

Lincoln Academy wanted to update their Campus Plan to incorporate recent projects and to plan for a new Performing Arts Center. After conducting programming interviews, SA met with the building committee every two weeks over five months to review potential site improvements, building renovations and additions, and new construction. We studied connectivity, traffic patterns, academic spaces, student housing, and administrative spaces, among others. Over the years, additions to the existing school building have solved immediate needs; however, the Academy lacks a clear entrance, circulation through the building is awkward, and many classrooms are not optimally size or located near others in their department. SA proposed a 3-story addition in the center of the main academic building that would knit the school together and provide a Learning Commons, Student Union, and expanded program spaces.

The school has a dynamic theater, music, and choral arts program that needs improved space for teaching and performances. Over the course of our work together, the committee reached consensus on a road map for future facility improvements. The need for a new Performing Arts Center was supported by the Campus Plan research and emerged as a clear priority for the next project to be undertaken.
