Patrons Oxford Insurance Company

Patrons Oxford Insurance Company has been growing rapidly.  In order to attract a younger and more diverse workforce, they decided to relocate to Portland and become the first tenant in the City’s Technology Park on Rand Road.

We worked with the Patrons Oxford building committee to design a modern, two-story, flexible office building that has plenty of light, ample meeting spaces of all sizes, a fitness area with lockers and showers, and carefully layered spaces to accommodate public and private functions. The building has been carefully sited to take advantage of the natural characteristics of the site as well as solar orientation. The building utilizes a carbon sequestering mass-timber framed structure with glulam beams and columns, and some structural steel reinforcements. The high-performance building is designed to exceed existing energy codes by 30% and will have a photovoltaic array on the roof to provide 35-40% of the electricity needed to power the building’s electrical and mechanical systems. The additional up-front costs for the improved thermal envelope and photovoltaic array will be offset by significant energy savings that will pay back the initial investment in less than 10 years.
