Kayla joined Simons Architects in 2013. Kayla has been involved with several projects in varied phases in the studio and has a particular interest in long-term planning and feasibility studies, internal strategic planning, as well as library projects. She finds the most joy in working on projects that have a wide-reaching impact on the communities they serve.
Kayla finds great satisfaction working with stakeholder groups on community-building projects that bring people from varied backgrounds together. She has worked on project teams for the Falmouth Memorial Library, the Burbank Branch of the Portland Public Library, as well as studies for the Scarborough Public Library, the Curtis Memorial Library, and Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library.
Her attention to detail, clear communication, and organizational skills are assets on complex planning projects. Kayla has worked with a number of organizations on planning studies, some recent examples include: Waynflete School Campus Plan Update, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts Comprehensive Campus Plan, Camp Huckins Master Plan, Tilton Master Plan Update, IF+W Wildlife Park Master Plan, Portland Museum of Art Master Plan Update, Fort Williams Park Master Plan, Library Lisbon High School Gymnasium, and the Tilton Master Plan Update.
Kayla graduated from the Mount Abrams Class of the Institute for Civic Leadership. In the past, she has served on the board of Architalx and volunteered for the Portland Society for Architecture. Kayla lives with her family in Scarborough and enjoys going on adventures with her husband and young daughter. In her spare time, she loves to garden, read, and spend time outdoors.
